Anti-Israel Progressive Angie Nixon Defeats Jewish Candidate Alex Vindman in Florida Democratic Primary

Angie Nixon, a member of the Florida House of Representatives, won the Democratic primary against Jewish candidate Alex Vindman, securing 56% of the vote to his 44%. Nixon, aligned with the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, is known for her strong criticism of Israel and has received support from Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar. She has previously described Israeli actions in Gaza as "massacre" and "genocide" and proposed legislation in November 2023 to halt U.S. aid to Israel.

Despite her primary victory, Nixon's chances of winning the Florida Senate seat in the upcoming midterm elections remain slim. She will face Republican Senator Ashley Moody, who was appointed to replace Marco Rubio after he became Secretary of State. Florida has not elected a Democratic senator since 2012 and is considered a Republican stronghold.

Nixon's win reflects the growing influence of the progressive left within the Democratic Party, following recent victories by progressive and socialist candidates in other U.S. primaries, such as New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.
