IDF Warns Reservists Against Fraudulent AI Campaigns and Fake Invoices for Aid Funds
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued an unusual warning to reservists this week about fraudsters attempting to deceive them into illegally claiming financial aid. Over recent months, videos largely created using artificial intelligence have circulated online, encouraging reservists to "not be fooled" and to extract aid money they are entitled to by submitting false documents.
One such entity, "Miluim Kal," was contacted by News 12 and admitted to submitting fake invoices for treatments that never occurred. The company requested personal details to apply for aid funds on behalf of reservists in exchange for a 25% commission. This practice involves generating fraudulent invoices to secure reimbursements for non-existent expenses, which the company acknowledged.
The IDF emphasized that submitting false documents or misleading information to receive reimbursements is prohibited and may constitute a criminal offense. They clarified that financial aid is only granted for actual expenses incurred and according to eligibility criteria. The military reaffirmed its commitment to supporting reservists while maintaining integrity and proper use of public funds.
News 12 initially sought comment from the IDF spokesperson, who requested delaying publication to avoid disrupting an internal investigation into potential collaborators within the military aiding such companies. However, the IDF later issued a broad public warning to all reservists, contradicting their earlier request for secrecy.
This development highlights ongoing concerns about fraudulent schemes targeting reservists and the IDF's efforts to combat misuse of aid funds through AI-driven campaigns and fake documentation.
