IDF Warns Reservists Against Fraudulent AI Campaigns and Fake Invoices for Aid Funds
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued an unusual warning to reservists about scammers attempting to fraudulently obtain their aid payments. Over recent months, videos mostly created using artificial intelligence have circulated online, encouraging reservists to "not be suckers" and to extract aid funds they are entitled to by submitting false documents. One such organization, "Miluim Kal," was contacted by News 12 and admitted to submitting fake invoices for treatments that never occurred, charging a 25% commission on recovered funds.
The IDF clarified that submitting false documents or misleading information to receive reimbursements is illegal and may constitute a criminal offense. Aid reimbursements are only granted for actual expenses incurred and according to eligibility criteria. The military emphasized its commitment to supporting reservists while maintaining integrity and proper use of public funds.
Initially, the IDF spokesperson requested News 12 to withhold publication to avoid disrupting an internal investigation, which includes probing possible collaborators within the military aiding such fraudulent companies. However, shortly afterward, the IDF paradoxically issued a broad public warning to all reservists, contradicting their earlier request for secrecy.
This development highlights ongoing concerns about fraud targeting reservists and the IDF's efforts to combat misuse of aid funds through deceptive AI-driven campaigns and fake billing practices.
