Purple Line Light Rail Cars Arrive in Israel After Pro-Palestinian Vandalism
The first rail cars for the Purple Line of the Tel Aviv metropolitan light rail arrived overnight in Haifa from Spain. They are the initial cars for the line in the Gush Dan area, which is still under development.
About a week and a half earlier, pro-Palestinian activists broke into the storage site in the Basque Country where the cars were being kept. They smashed the windows and spray-painted graffiti reading, "Destroy Israel."
The Spanish company responsible for manufacturing the cars repaired the damage before shipment. Their arrival marks a key step in the Purple Line project despite the earlier attack.
