A masked group calling itself pro-Palestinian activists vandalized six electric railcars built by CAF for Tel Aviv’s Purple Line light rail project, Spanish media reported. The cars were stored in an open facility when the intruders smashed their windows and sprayed red graffiti accusing the company of cooperating with Israel.

Among the slogans painted on the railcars were “CAF is an accomplice to a crime” and “Destroy Israel.” The incident was first made public through a video sent to the Spanish site Argia, which said the attack was carried out because the cars were marked in Hebrew and intended for the Tel Aviv rail network.

In a message to Argia, the vandals said the action was meant to protest CAF’s ties to projects in Israel. CAF is building the Purple Line together with Shapir Engineering. According to the article, the line is expected to open partially in 2027 and fully by mid-2028.

NTA, the project operator, said the damage was not expected to delay the project. The Purple Line is under construction and is planned to run 28 kilometers with 43 stations, linking central Tel Aviv with eastern cities in the metropolitan area.
