Right-wing activists warn Trump-Iran deal could lead to Israeli retreat
Activists from the "Bashan Pioneers" staged an emergency protest this morning near the security fence on the old border with Syria, reacting to the White House’s formal announcement of a "peace agreement" between Donald Trump and Tehran. According to reports cited by the group, the deal includes a total halt to fighting against terrorism on all fronts.
The protesters said any Israeli acceptance of those terms would amount to a security abandonment. They warned that "tying the hands of the IDF in the fight against terrorism, which still exists and is bubbling under the surface, is the beginning of a slippery slope and a dangerous deterioration that could eventually lead to complete territorial withdrawal." The group called on "ministers who seek to represent the right" to stop the diplomatic move and immediately approve Jewish settlement plans beyond the current borders.
The protest came days after a statement by Jolani, described as recently becoming a guest of honor at the White House under the Trump administration, in which he called on Israel to withdraw completely from Mount Hermon. The activists argued that this demand is not accidental, but a direct result of the agreement, saying it shows the enemy senses Israeli weakness and is using American pressure to create facts on the ground.
The movement said the only way to block the agreement’s consequences is to establish firm facts on the ground that show friends and enemies alike that Israel is not going anywhere. In a statement issued this morning, it said the cabinet must "change its mindset" and approve immediate settlement in Bashan and Lebanon, adding, "This is the only way to make it clear to everyone, we are here to stay."
