Man Charged After Brutally Attacking Teen Who Smiled at Him on Tiberias Bus
A 29-year-old man from Afula was charged after violently attacking a 16-year-old boy on a bus in Tiberias, Israel. The assault occurred after the teenager smiled at the man during the bus ride from Haifa to Tiberias. The attacker threatened the teen, saying, "If you smile again, I'll break your face." After the bus reached the central station in Tiberias, the victim boarded another bus with a female friend, where the assailant also got on and sat a few seats ahead. Shortly after the bus departed, the man threw his cellphone at the teen and then physically assaulted him, breaking the boy’s teeth and causing facial injuries. The attacker further threatened the teen, demanding respect and warning of more violence. Following an investigation by the Northern District police, the suspect was arrested and indicted. The prosecution requested his detention until the end of legal proceedings at the Nof HaGalil-Nazareth Magistrate’s Court. The incident was captured on police video and reported about two weeks after it occurred.
