Iran Targets Israeli Journalists in New Cyber Deception Attempts

Iranian intelligence operatives have adopted a new tactic aimed at Israeli journalists, impersonating law enforcement officials to lure them into meetings. The Shin Bet and Israel's National Cyber Directorate issued an unusual warning after several incidents where Iranian agents contacted Israeli media personnel, posing as police figures. In one case, an Iranian agent impersonated an assistant to Boaz Balat, head of the Police Investigations and Intelligence Division, and tried to arrange a Zoom meeting with a female journalist. The agent identified herself as "Sara Levi," claiming to organize meetings for Balat. The Zoom invitation was part of a scheme to take control of the journalist's account. The targeted journalist had to change her account and block her credit card as a precaution. Similar approaches were also made to other journalists via Instagram. Israeli security agencies are currently investigating these incidents.
