Maccabi Haifa Beats Hapoel Be'er Sheva 4-2 in Youth Premier League Opener
The opening round of the Israeli Youth Premier League continued on Monday with three notable matches. Maccabi Haifa secured a 4-2 victory over Hapoel Be'er Sheva in a high-scoring game. Noam Israel gave Haifa an early lead in the 12th minute, but Liam Shugar quickly equalized for Be'er Sheva. Noam Goldenberg, a promising midfielder who advanced two age groups last year, scored Haifa's second goal in the 62nd minute. Liam Luski added a third goal for Haifa in the 71st minute. Be'er Sheva's Tomer Shimoni narrowed the deficit in stoppage time (92nd minute), but Younes Adena sealed the win with his first youth team goal, finishing a green counterattack to make it 4-2.
In another match, defending champions Maccabi Tel Aviv edged out newly promoted Hapoel Jerusalem 1-0 thanks to a 53rd-minute goal by striker Ido Yosef. Yosef, who replaced Itay Zafrani, had an outstanding previous season with 34 goals in the under-16 league and handed Jerusalem their first defeat of the season. Additionally, Maccabi Netanya defeated Maccabi Petah Tikva 2-1 in the third match of the day.
These results set the tone for the new season as teams vie for youth league supremacy across Israel.
