Noam Amir Apologizes for Misidentification Error Amid Shdem Yemen Case Coverage
Noam Amir, a military affairs analyst on Channel 14, addressed a recent misidentification error broadcast during the main news program. The footage mistakenly identified a woman living near former military prosecutor Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi's home as Tomer-Yerushalmi herself. Amir apologized on behalf of Channel 14 to both the woman featured and the viewers, explaining that a series of factors led to the error. He emphasized the newsroom's responsibility and noted that a clarification was issued promptly after the mistake was discovered.
Amir sharply criticized other media outlets and journalists who focused heavily on Channel 14's error over the past day. He singled out Channel 12 for previously broadcasting false accusations against the Israel Defense Forces, including an unfounded claim of an attack on a hospital in Gaza and defamatory coverage of soldiers involved in the Shdem Yemen case. Amir accused these outlets of causing significant harm to the reputation of Israeli soldiers and the state without issuing apologies.
He urged the public and media not to let the misidentification error distract from the core issue: the ongoing investigation and plea deal reportedly developing with former military prosecutor Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi in the Shdem Yemen affair. Amir stressed the importance of maintaining focus on the substantive allegations rather than the surrounding noise created by media disputes.
