Israeli Police Arrest Two More Suspects in Eldar Dayan Murder Case
Israeli police arrested two additional young men on Monday suspected of involvement in the murder of Eldar Dayan. Earlier this month, Dayan's body was found in central Israel near Highway 40 after he had been missing for about three weeks. The body, discovered in an advanced state of decomposition, was sent to the Abu Kabir Institute of Forensic Medicine for identification. The police expressed condolences to the family and pledged a thorough investigation to uncover the truth and hold all involved accountable.
Dayan's two friends are also suspects and had their detention extended by six days after police requested a 15-day extension. The investigation began following a tip from an anonymous caller who reported seeing Dayan's abandoned car with a broken windshield and blood at a gas station in Petah Tikva. The car contained fingerprints of Dayan and his two friends. One suspect claimed they left the car after a confrontation with Eritreans in Tel Aviv, while the other denied involvement.
Earlier reports suggested Dayan might still be alive and hiding, but the discovery of the body confirmed his death. Dayan's family, represented by criminal lawyer Sapir Perdo, expressed hope that the body was not his and criticized premature conclusions about his fate. The police continue to investigate all leads with transparency toward the family. Security footage from July 17 showed Dayan entering the gas station shirtless shortly before his disappearance.
The police had previously exhausted all search efforts in the southern district and continued probing in the central district. The case remains under active investigation as authorities seek to clarify the circumstances surrounding Dayan's death and bring justice to those responsible.
