Itamar Ben Gvir Supports Transferring West Bank Enforcement Powers from IDF to Police
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir announced his agreement with Defense Minister Israel Katz's call to transfer enforcement powers in the West Bank from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to the Israeli police. Ben Gvir emphasized the need to advance this proposal by shifting responsibility for the Border Police in the West Bank from the IDF to the police, in line with the coalition agreement that he claims has been violated so far.
He further demanded that administrative arrest and restriction authorities currently held by the Defense Minister and the IDF be transferred to the National Security Minister and the police. Ben Gvir criticized the current lack of use of these powers against anarchists and anti-Zionist groups, stating it is time to apply these tools against enemies of the state. He concluded that once these steps are implemented, the Israeli police will be able to practically assume responsibility for enforcement powers in the West Bank.
