West Bank Police Commander Supports Transferring Civil Authority from IDF to Police
The commander of the Judea and Samaria District of the Israeli Police expressed support for Defense Minister Yoav Katz's announcement to transfer civil authority in the West Bank from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to the police. He emphasized that the growth of the Israeli population in Area C and the expansion of outposts outside established communities necessitate adjustments and delegation of powers to the police. Additionally, the commander called for formalizing the joint task force comprising the Central Command, police, and Shin Bet to address and prevent extreme violence in the West Bank. He described these measures as significant steps required to thwart terrorism and allow the IDF to focus on its primary missions.
