Iran Mocks Trump Over Deal, Says Washington Had to Accept Defeat
Iranian officials portrayed their agreement with the United States as a victory forced on Washington after Iranian “military successes,” while also warning that the talks are still conditional. The story centers on a 60-day negotiation framework announced after the deal, with Tehran saying the Americans must first meet commitments on ending the war, lifting the blockade, and releasing Iranian assets.
The Iranian armed forces’ Khatam al-Anbia headquarters said overnight between Sunday and Monday that Iranians, under the Supreme Leader’s command, had shown the United States that “there is no way other than accepting defeat.” Foreign Ministry deputy head Majid Takht-Ravanchi said there will be an official signing on Friday, followed by talks between the two delegations’ heads on the future negotiating arrangements.
Takht-Ravanchi said Iran will verify U.S. promises before entering the 60-day talks, and that the memorandum is “not only the result of diplomacy” but also of Iranian battlefield gains, public support, and plans by the Supreme Leader and other officials. He added that the final draft included all of Tehran’s key positions, the full text will be published after signing, and that Iran does not trust the U.S. but will monitor its commitments closely.
He also said events in Lebanon and statements by the armed forces helped soften some disputed points, and claimed U.S. and Israeli pressure failed. He warned that Iranian forces remain ready for any conspiracy. Trump, meanwhile, celebrated what he called a “historic agreement,” saying it would bring peace and security to the region and that, once the strait is reopened after Friday’s signing and mine-clearing, oil will flow again in both directions.
