Israeli Judoka Raz Hershko Wins Bronze at Lima Grand Prix
Israeli judoka Raz Hershko, ranked number one globally in the over 78 kg category, secured the bronze medal at the Lima Grand Prix judo competition held in Peru. The event concluded overnight between Sunday and Monday, focusing on the heavyweight divisions. Hershko began her campaign in the quarterfinals, swiftly defeating Brazilian Silva by pinning her in under 30 seconds.
In the semifinals, Hershko faced Beatriz Souza, who had previously beaten her in the gold medal match at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Souza managed to pin Hershko twice during their bout, with the second pin ending the match in Souza's favor. Hershko then competed for the bronze medal against Colombian judoka Carabali, a silver medalist at the 2023 Pan American Games. Hershko won the close contest by pinning Carabali after just 90 seconds.
Souza went on to claim the gold medal in Lima. Hershko is scheduled to face Souza again later this month in an exhibition match. The competition was covered by Sport 5 and the International Judo Federation (IJF).
