Netanyahu Meets U.S. Envoys to Advance Trump’s Gaza Disarmament Plan
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet with Jared Kushner, Nikolay Mladenov, and Tony Blair on Monday in Jerusalem to push forward the U.S. 20-point plan for Gaza, which includes a 15-point document aimed at disarming Hamas. Ahead of the meeting, the three envoys held talks in Egypt with Egyptian officials and other mediators to turn the roadmap’s next steps into concrete actions, including transferring governance in Gaza to a technocratic Palestinian authority.
A senior official from the Peace Council told Walla that the discussions will focus on accelerating the implementation of President Donald Trump’s plan, emphasizing that both the U.S. and Israel agree on the final goal: a disarmed Hamas. The objective is for Hamas to fully relinquish control and military capabilities to enable Gaza’s reconstruction under a technocratic government. The plan includes maintaining the ceasefire, transferring all administrative powers to the National Committee for Gaza Management, dismantling Hamas’s military infrastructure, deploying an international stabilization force, and allowing Israeli withdrawals accordingly.
The Peace Council stressed that humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts must proceed without diversion or threats. The official stated, "Hamas must give up all governing authority and military assets. Gaza must never again be a source of terror against Israel." Despite firm messages to Hamas, the meeting also aims to address Israeli concerns about the sequence of steps. While both sides agree on the end goal, Israel insists no troop withdrawals will occur until Hamas’s disarmament is verified, rejecting the Peace Council’s 15-point document as a basis for action.
Recent Israeli targeted operations in Gaza resumed after a brief pause, with Israeli sources claiming Hamas used the ceasefire period to strengthen its military capabilities rather than prepare for disarmament. The upcoming meeting is a critical test for Trump’s plan, with agreement on the outcome but ongoing disputes over the order of implementation and when Israel will begin withdrawing forces.
