Cyber Directorate Warns Public About Fake Home Front Command Messages
Israel’s National Cyber Directorate issued a public warning on Sunday evening about false messages circulating online that impersonate Home Front Command alerts, amid heightened security tensions and fears of escalation with Iran.
According to the directorate, in recent hours a message has been spread on social networks and messaging apps claiming that a radio warning had been issued against SMS messages asking users to update the Home Front Command app, on the grounds that this was an “Iranian cyberattack.” The agency said the message is fake and has no connection to official authorities.
The directorate warned that sharing such claims could create unnecessary panic. It urged the public not to pass on unverified information and not to click on links for app updates sent by SMS, WhatsApp, or any other platform.
Instead, the directorate said apps should be updated only through the official stores, the App Store and Google Play.
