Radical Pressure Cancels Major Bar Mitzvah Event Venue for Rachmastrivka Rebbe’s Grandson

The historic bar mitzvah celebration for the eldest grandson of the Rachmastrivka Rebbe, scheduled for Sunday, 11 Elul, has faced significant disruption due to pressure from radical factions within the community. This event marks the first bar mitzvah among the Rebbe’s descendants, as it is the initial occasion where one of his grandchildren enters the religious covenant. The Rebbe has two daughters married to Rabbis Shmuel Aba Tversky and David Yitzchak Yaakov Biderman, and this celebration is a milestone for the next generation.

Originally, the celebration was planned to take place at the large main study hall of the Karlin-Stolin Hasidic community in Givat Ze’ev, a venue capable of accommodating thousands of Hasidim and supporters expected from across Israel and worldwide. This choice was significant given past controversies, as similar events by other Rebbes, such as the Toldos Avraham Yitzchak Rebbe, were held there despite intense opposition from radical groups.

However, these radical elements succeeded in forcing the cancellation of the event at the Givat Ze’ev hall. In response, the community organizers are urgently seeking an alternative venue. It is now likely that the bar mitzvah will be held in a large tent erected near the Slonim study hall in the city. The preparations continue amid this logistical challenge, underscoring the tensions within the Hasidic world regarding public celebrations and venue choices.
