Hadassah Medical Center Elevates Kosher Standards in Maternity and Nutrition Departments
Hadassah Medical Center has implemented a comprehensive upgrade to its kosher supervision across all hospital departments, focusing recently on its maternity wards. The new system ensures that all food menus served in these departments are under the strict supervision of the Badatz of the Edah HaChareidis and Badatz Kehillot, providing patients and their families with peace of mind regarding the kashrut of their meals during hospitalization.
This enhancement emphasizes the selection of the highest quality raw ingredients and deepens the rigorous supervision and work methods throughout the hospital kitchens. The expanded kosher supervision team now includes supervisors, Torah scholars, and devout observers who oversee the entire cooking process, personally handling sensitive halachic tasks such as sorting legumes and washing leafy vegetables, while ensuring all cooking is done in Israel.
As part of establishing these standards, Hadassah’s kosher committee rabbis recently toured the production line of Hasalat, a company operating under the supervision of the Badatz Edah HaChareidis. The visit aimed to guarantee a steady supply of meticulously supervised leafy vegetables and to directly oversee the agricultural processes of growing, sorting, and packaging produce delivered daily to the hospital kitchens.
Beyond kitchen operations, Hadassah’s management is developing comprehensive halachic guides for patients addressing complex medical and religious issues encountered during hospitalization, including family purity laws. These guides are created in continuous consultation with leading rabbis and senior Hadassah physicians to provide authoritative halachic guidance in real time.
Additionally, the hospital operates a dedicated telephone information line (02-6777699) offering updated details on prayer times, synagogue locations, Sabbath and holiday guidelines, and specific instructions for Kohanim regarding permissible access within medical centers.
