Maccabi Tel Aviv Negotiates with Serbian Defender Nikola Maraš for Defensive Reinforcement

Maccabi Tel Aviv is currently in negotiations with Serbian central defender Nikola Maraš, 30, who stands 1.89 meters tall. Maraš was released this summer from Spanish club Alavés and is now available as a free agent. He spent most of his career in Spain, primarily in the second division, with his last club being Mirandés, where he was on loan from Alavés.

Throughout his career, Maraš has played for several Spanish teams including Almería, Chaves, Sporting Gijón, Rayo Vallecano, and Levante. Notably, he made 16 appearances in La Liga with Rayo Vallecano. His original club is Serbian powerhouse Red Star Belgrade, where he made 109 appearances, the most he has had at any club.

On the international stage, Maraš has two caps for the Serbian national team, earned in friendly matches against Qatar in 2016 and the United States in 2017. Although he has been called up several times since, including as recently as 2020 for the UEFA Nations League, he has not played in official matches since then. If the deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv goes through, Maraš will join the Israeli Premier League club as a free agent, potentially strengthening their defense.
