Israeli Lawyer Alon Kriti Indicted for Extortion and Threats in Debt Dispute

The Central District Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against 52-year-old lawyer Alon Kriti, accusing him of extorting and threatening a man who owed him money. The indictment, submitted last Sunday to the Magistrate's Court in Rishon Lezion, details that Kriti lent the complainant approximately 50,000 shekels in cash during 2025, of which only 30,000 shekels were repaid. Additionally, a family member of Kriti, who was also a friend of the complainant, lent another 20,000 shekels that remained unpaid, escalating the conflict between the parties.

According to the indictment, Kriti and the complainant had a close friendship and a legal representation relationship. After the complainant failed to repay the full amount, Kriti sent threatening text and voice messages via WhatsApp, warning that "some guys" would arrive at the complainant's home within an hour. Subsequently, Kriti sent two individuals to the complainant's residence to intimidate him, despite the presence of the complainant's nine-year-old son.

Following these events, the complainant filed a police report leading to Kriti's arrest. The prosecution requested that Kriti be held in custody until the conclusion of the legal proceedings, citing the severity and premeditated nature of the threats and intimidation. The court accepted the prosecution's position and lifted the gag order, allowing the publication of Kriti's name and full case details, which have caused significant attention in the legal community.
