Upper Galilee Beats Ra'anana 60-50, Moves Closer to Survival
Hapoel Galil Elyon defeated Maccabi Ra'anana 60-50 in the lower-stage rematch five days after Ra'anana won the teams’ previous meeting 81-64 in MetroWest. The result lifted the northern side to 21-9, moving it ahead of Ra'anana, which fell to 21-8, a shift that could prove decisive in the relegation battle.
The article says the loss last week had pushed Galil below the safety line, but coach Idan Avshalom’s team is now back above it and controls its own fate with two rounds left. Ra'anana, coached by Goni Yizreeli, remains without an away win in the lower stage, a result that would have brought it closer to staying in the league.
Cyril Langevine and Shahar Ammi led Galil’s victory, with help from Yuval Schneiderman and newcomer Roi Prizki. The hosts set the tempo from the opening minutes, largely thanks to Langevine, and kept a double-digit lead for much of the game. When the visitors began closing the gap, the local forward-center repeatedly halted their comeback attempts.
On the other side, Tyree Radford, Joaquin Schuchman and Matt Coleman stood out for Ra'anana, but unlike last week, their production was not enough. Galil Elyon will next face Ironi Ness Ziona and then Elitzur Netanya, while Ra'anana plays Netanya in the next round and finishes against Ness Ziona.
