Vizhnitz Rebbe Issues Firm Ban on Military Conscription at Massive Jerusalem Gathering

Thousands of Vizhnitz Hasidim from across Israel gathered on Tuesday at the large Beit Midrash of the Gur Hasidic community on Yeremiyahu Street in Jerusalem for a grand assembly led by the Vizhnitz Rebbe. The event, which included a special fundraising campaign for the Vizhnitz Institutions Association, was moved from Meron to Jerusalem due to the Rebbe's recent health issues. Despite his visible weakness, the Rebbe appeared in full glory, inspiring the crowd.

The gathering opened with a moving performance by the "Yiddish Nachas" children's choir from the United States, highlighting the historic dedication of the Jewish people to Torah study. Attendees also witnessed a unique representation called "Prison 10," symbolizing unwavering loyalty to God and Torah through the image of a Hasid bound in chains yet immersed in study.

Speeches were delivered by Rabbi Zusha Horowitz, head of the Hasidic communities' rabbinical court in Elad, and Rabbi Mordechai Greenfeld, a Vizhnitz rabbi from Antwerp, who captivated the thousands present. Prior to the Rebbe's appearance, prayers and penitential verses were recited by senior rabbis, creating an atmosphere of deep emotion and unity.

A special delegation, including Rabbi Menachem Ernster, head of the Vizhnitz yeshiva, personally invited the Gur Rebbe to attend. The Gur Rebbe accepted and was warmly welcomed, with the Vizhnitz Rebbe accompanying him respectfully. His presence underscored a call for Torah unity and strengthening of religious walls amid current challenges.

At the event's climax, the Vizhnitz Rebbe's unequivocal directive was read by Rabbi Yaakov Mordechai Hager, the Vizhnitz rabbinical court head: a total prohibition against any form of military conscription, emphasizing the need to educate children in faith and self-sacrifice for the sanctity of God's name. The Rebbe also called for a special pledge to support Torah study and institutions in light of the present situation.

The assembly concluded with a spirit of elevation, determination, and strong unity, as thousands committed their contributions to the Vizhnitz Institutions Association and the strengthening of the Torah world.
