Tnuva Butter Returns to Shufersal Shelves with Price Increase
The partial resolution of the dispute between Tnuva and the Shufersal supermarket chain has led to the return of Tnuva butter to Shufersal stores. The butter had disappeared from Shufersal shelves since May, after the chain refused Tnuva's price hike demand, prompting Tnuva to stop supplying butter to Shufersal. Now, Tnuva butter is back, but with a price increase, generally lower than Tnuva's overall 4.8% price hike. However, Shufersal has not yet reinstated other Tnuva products like Piraeus cheeses and Yoplait yogurts, which were also removed in response to Tnuva's price increases. Tnuva plans to raise prices on these products along with long-life milk and 9% white cheese.
Price checks across Shufersal's various formats show mixed increases: in Shufersal Universe, the price rose by 1% from 9.80 to 9.90 shekels; Shufersal Express saw a 4.8% increase from 10.40 to 10.90 shekels; Shufersal Sheli rose 3.9% from 10.30 to 10.70 shekels; while Shufersal Deal and Shufersal Online prices remained stable at 9.90 shekels. Other chains like Victory Online, Yohananof City, and Rami Levy neighborhood stores also kept prices steady at 9.90 shekels. Carrefour City maintained prices between 10.30 and 10.50 shekels, and Rami Levy Online held at 9.80 shekels.
Some chains raised prices beyond Tnuva's hike, with Yellow increasing butter prices by 11.21% to 11.90 shekels, Super Sapir by 10.5% to 10.50 shekels, Freshmarket by 6.7% to 11.20 shekels, and Victory by 6%. Shufersal's own "Yes" brand increased prices by 2%. Tnuva butter remains among the cheapest options compared to imported butters like Finland's Valio, France's Lurpak, and Italy's Ged dairies, which range from about 12.90 to 27.80 shekels for 100-200 gram packs.
Competing local brands include Alma butter, priced between 7.90 and 14.90 shekels, and Terra butter, sometimes sold at lower prices. Tnuva butter is also available in other chains such as Osher Ad, Carrefour, Shefa Birkhat Hashem, and Tiv Taam City, priced between 9.50 and 11.90 shekels. Roshen butter and Belgian Euro butter are also sold at prices close to Tnuva's, especially during promotions.
