Trump Says Beirut Strike Should Not Have Happened Amid Near-Deal With Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that the morning attack in Beirut “should not have happened,” especially on what he described as a special day when the United States was very close to a peace agreement with Iran. He said Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but argued that the strike it responded to was “very small and insignificant.”
Trump said no one was hurt or killed in that attack and that it should not disrupt what he called an important process. He added that the parties are “very close to a deal” that would bring peace to the region, including Lebanon.
He called on all sides to pull back. “There should be no more attacks from Israel anywhere in Lebanon,” he wrote, “but there should also be no more attacks from any other side, including Hezbollah, against Israel.” Trump said, “This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace, let’s not blow it up!”
