Yeshiva Head Says U.S. Doctor Walked Out After Learning His Job
Rabbi Bunim Schreiber, a yeshiva head from Ashdod who is visiting the United States, told a large gathering in Lakewood, New Jersey, that a hospital doctor left his room after learning he was a yeshiva head. According to Schreiber, the doctor did so without offering any explanation, and another physician was sent in his place about 10 minutes later.
Schreiber said the hospitalization had begun normally, with the medical staff treating him professionally and attentively. The incident happened when a doctor came in for a routine examination and asked about his condition, including what he did for a living.
“I answered that I am a yeshiva head,” Schreiber told the audience. “As soon as he heard that, he fell silent, left the room without saying a word, and ten minutes later another doctor arrived instead.”
Schreiber said the replacement doctor, who appeared embarrassed, told him that his colleague was “simply unable” to continue treating him, again without giving any medical reason. Other doctors continued the treatment, but Schreiber said the episode stayed with him. The account shocked the thousands in attendance and has since circulated on social media, where some view it as an example of rising antisemitism against Orthodox Jews in the United States.
