Jewish Family Flees Home After Arson Attack in New York Suburb

Early Monday morning in Suffern, Rockland County, New York, a Jewish family was forced to evacuate their home after an unknown assailant deliberately set fire to a trash bin outside their residence. The fire quickly spread to a nearby parked vehicle, engulfing it in flames and threatening the house where the family, including young children, were sleeping. Surveillance footage captured the suspect approaching the property at 4:07 a.m., igniting the trash bin with a torch, and fleeing the scene.

Local firefighters and police responded swiftly, arriving before 5:00 a.m. and ordering the family to evacuate safely. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze before it reached the home, preventing a major disaster. Another nearby vehicle sustained minor damage, and no injuries were reported. Suffern’s mayor, Michael Corley, visited the scene and assured residents that authorities are treating the incident seriously and will pursue the perpetrator.

Initial community concerns suggested the attack might be antisemitic, given the family's background and the location. However, after investigation, police stated there is currently no evidence indicating the arson was motivated by hate. Authorities are examining the suspect’s movements prior to the attack and believe the individual may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement confident they will identify and arrest the suspect soon.
