Democrats Candidate Demands Removal of IDF Central Command Chief Over West Bank Settlement Clash

Nimrod Shafir, a candidate from the Democratic Party, publicly called for the dismissal of IDF Central Command Chief Avi Blot following recent tensions around the establishment of a new outpost in the West Bank village of Kusra. The outpost, an expansion of the existing Tal Talpiot settlement, has sparked confrontations during evacuation efforts by Israeli security forces. Shafir accused the IDF of escorting settlers who entered the Palestinian village and criticized the military and police response as biased, contrasting it with the heavy police deployment during protests against Sara Netanyahu. He stated, "When settlers besiege a Palestinian family for months, cutting electricity and blocking doors to evict them, the IDF accompanies them and the Israeli police do not respond." Shafir demanded Blot's removal for failing to fulfill his duties, saying it should happen "sooner rather than later."

The IDF began evacuating tents set up by settlers near Kusra after the outpost's expansion beyond its original area. Despite multiple evacuations over the past two years, settlers repeatedly reestablish the outpost. Recently, settlers not only returned to the original site but also placed tents mere meters from Palestinian homes, effectively besieging three Palestinian families. Videos circulated on social media showed soldiers from the Home Front Command praying with settlers inside one of the tents. The IDF announced an investigation into these incidents and stated that commanders took the settlers' actions against the Palestinian family seriously, ordering disciplinary measures against the involved soldiers.
