Ofer Yanai sues referees' association over his ejection from cup game
Ofer Yanai has escalated his fight with the referees' associations by filing a 95-page lawsuit over his removal from a cup game. The suit targets referee Dan Yalon, who officiated the match against Hapoel Jerusalem and ejected Yanai, as well as the Israel Basketball Association and the Basketball Referees Association.
According to the filing, Yanai argues through illustrations, legal claims, explanations and precedents that his ejection was unlawful. He is not seeking monetary damages. Instead, he wants declaratory relief stating that a basketball referee has no authority to eject a spectator from a game, and that his own removal was done without authority and illegally.
The article says Yanai has not attended Hapoel Tel Aviv games in the league since the incident, and that this will continue for now during the final series against Maccabi Tel Aviv. The report was published on June 14, 2026, at 15:59.
