Ofer Yanai Sues Basketball Referees' Association Over Cup Ejection
Ofer Yanai has escalated his fight with Israel's basketball referees' bodies by filing a 95-page lawsuit over the ejection that occurred during a cup game against Hapoel Jerusalem. The suit names referee Dan Yalon, who officiated the match, as well as the Israel Basketball Association and the Basketball Referees' Association.
According to the filing, Yanai argues through diagrams, legal arguments, explanations and precedents that the ejection was unlawful. He is not seeking money damages. Instead, he is asking for declaratory relief stating that a basketball referee has no authority to expel a spectator from a game, and that his own removal was made without authority and unlawfully.
The article says Yanai has stayed away from Hapoel Tel Aviv games in the league since that incident, and that will also be the case for now in the championship series against Maccabi Tel Aviv. The lawsuit was reported on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 15:59, by Sport 5.
