Family Rescued From Apartment Fire Caused by Charging Laptop in Herzliya

Early Wednesday morning, a fire broke out in an apartment on Harav Kook Street in Herzliya due to a laptop left charging on a sofa. The laptop's ventilation was blocked by the sofa fabric, causing it to overheat and ignite the furniture. Firefighters from the Herzliya station extinguished the blaze and rescued a couple and their infant, who were then taken to the hospital in light condition.

Fire investigators confirmed the laptop as the fire's origin and emphasized the danger of placing laptops on soft surfaces like sofas or beds, which block ventilation and can lead to overheating. The Israel Fire and Rescue Services issued a public warning against this practice, highlighting that laptops are designed to operate on hard surfaces that allow airflow.

The fire crews conducted thorough searches amid heavy smoke to locate the family and stressed the critical importance of installing smoke detectors in homes. The fire service stated, "Smoke detectors save lives" by enabling early fire detection and providing time to evacuate safely.
