Amnon Ben Shach Releases New Single “Yosef”
Singer and songwriter Amnon Ben Shach has released a new single, “Yosef,” inspired by Yosef HaTzaddik and his journey from the pit to kingship. Ben Shach said his connection to Yosef has lasted for years, and described the biblical figure as someone who dreamed, was hated by his brothers, was thrown into a pit filled with snakes and scorpions, and survived through joy, faith in God and guarding the covenant before rising to rule in Egypt.
Ben Shach wrote the lyrics several years ago, and they were also included in a poetry book he published two years ago. He composed the melody together with his friend Omer Kuint, while Roman Grinblat handled the arrangement and musical production.
He said the release was timed intentionally for a period when many people visit Yosef’s grave, light memorial candles and pray for the salvation of the people of Israel. “This is my way of honoring Yosef HaTzaddik,” he said.
Ben Shach, 43, from Ramat Gan, is a multidisciplinary artist who combines writing, composing and spiritual content. As a baal teshuva, he says he is deeply influenced by Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, and that influence is reflected in his work. “Yosef” is part of a new album in progress that will mostly feature songs he wrote and composed himself, along with one Psalm that he set to music.
