Zelensky Shares Russian Intelligence Material Showing Slipping Support for Putin
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that he had been shown rare internal Russian intelligence documents indicating a worsening mood inside Russia ahead of the next parliamentary election in September 2026. He published images and charts on Telegram that he said reflect growing public dissatisfaction across the country.
According to the material obtained by Ukrainian intelligence, Kremlin officials are already warning Putin that unrest is unlikely to ease and may deepen before the vote. Zelensky said, “We understand that Putin receives almost no truly complete information without embellishments, but even what he sees in the documents that do reach him allows clear conclusions.”
The data, he said, shows a steady decline in support for the ruling United Russia party. In Zelensky’s view, that means the regime will need far greater “falsifications” to preserve its hold on power. The reports also point to a significant rise in “protest moods” in different Russian regions.
Zelensky suggested that, because of Putin’s weakening position, Ukraine may eventually need to negotiate peace with a different Russian leadership, one that is not “detached from reality.” He said pressure on Russia over the war will continue to increase, and added that the current trends do not yet account for possible major events in the coming summer months.
