Haifa Leads Israeli Cities in Child Road Accident Injuries During Summer 2025

In the summer of 2025, a total of 379 children were injured in road accidents across Israel, including eight fatalities and 60 severe injuries. Haifa topped the list with the highest rate of child road accident victims, averaging 0.27 injured children per 1,000 children annually, equating to about 16 children each summer. Following Haifa, Acre ranked second with 0.25 injuries per 1,000 children (three children per summer), and Hadera was third with 0.209 injuries per 1,000 children (five children per summer). Ashkelon and Petah Tikva completed the top five cities with similar injury rates.

Jerusalem recorded the highest absolute number of child injuries during the summer, averaging 40 children injured each year, but ranked 19th in injury rate per 1,000 children at 0.12. Among Haredi cities, Beitar Illit ranked 23rd with 0.105 injuries per 1,000 children, Bnei Brak 32nd with 0.07, and Modiin Illit 41st with 0.02. Arab cities showed varied rates, with Umm al-Fahm at 18th place (0.128 injuries per 1,000 children), Rahat at 29th (0.081), and Nazareth at 30th (0.078).

Road safety expert Yaakov emphasized the need to reduce speed limits near areas with high child activity such as schools, parks, and community centers. He warned that over 30 children have already died in road accidents this year, with projections reaching up to 50 fatalities by year-end, marking the worst two-decade record. Yaakov stressed that since children will behave like children, responsibility lies in creating safer, more forgiving environments rather than blaming the children themselves.
