Israeli Couple Attacked at Pro-Palestinian Protest in Athens During 'Day of Rage'

An Israeli couple was assaulted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators during a protest in Athens, Greece, on Sunday. The incident occurred amid the "Day of Rage" protests organized by pro-Palestinian groups across Greece, including Athens, Thessaloniki, and popular tourist destinations. Video footage circulating on social media shows one protester pushing the man and another kicking him, while the crowd shouted slogans such as "Free Palestine" and "Zionists are murderers." The couple did not respond with violence and appeared anxious as they sought to leave the scene.

A bystander intervened to protect and escort the couple away from the attackers, shielding them with his body. The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed the couple's nationality and issued a heightened caution advisory for Israelis in Greece, recommending they conceal any Israeli symbols and avoid protest areas.

The "Day of Rage" was declared last month by a coalition of pro-Palestinian organizations, including March to Gaza, BDS Greece, the Palestinian community in Greece, and the Stop the War coalition. The protests aimed to condemn Israeli military actions in Gaza and the Palestinian territories and criticized the Greek government's close diplomatic, military, and economic ties with Israel.
