Israeli Education Ministry Limits Parent-Teacher Communication to Defined Channels
After a year and a half of intensive negotiations led by the Israeli Teachers' Union with the Ministry of Education, a special directive has been issued to regulate communication between parents and teaching staff. The directive aims to prevent frequent and inappropriate contact from parents during teachers' personal time, including late nights, family vacations, and weekends. The new guidelines mandate that all communication must occur only through designated channels established by each school with the agreement of both the professional staff and parents.
The directive emphasizes maintaining professional boundaries and respecting teachers' private time while preserving the essential relationship between parents and educators. Teachers' Union Secretary General, Yaffa Ben-David, praised the move as an unprecedented achievement, stating that educators are not service centers and have a fundamental right to free time. She highlighted the importance of mutual respect, including respecting teachers' time and boundaries.
Ben-David also thanked Education Minister Yoav Kisch and the professional staff at the Ministry of Education for their partnership in formulating the regulation. She stressed that protecting the dignity, rights, and professional status of educational staff is not only an obligation to them but a fundamental prerequisite for building a strong, high-quality, and advanced education system in Israel.
