Central Israel resident convicted of raping his wife three times gets nearly 12 years
A resident of central Israel was sentenced by the Central District Court in Lod to 11 years and eight months in prison after being convicted of raping his wife three times and attempting to rape her. The court also ordered him to pay her 70,000 shekels in compensation. The sentence was issued on Sunday, June 14, 2026, after a full evidentiary trial.
According to the verdict, the man, who was convicted of three aggravated rape offenses and one attempted rape, created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation in the home. The judges accepted the complainant’s testimony in full and found that he threatened her, humiliated her, and physically and sexually abused her. He repeatedly demanded sex without her consent, at times using threats and force, while ignoring her pleas and distress.
The court wrote that he told her, “I am not afraid of the police,” and that he turned her, said she was his wife, and claimed he could have sex with her whenever he wanted. The ruling emphasized that a woman’s right to bodily autonomy does not diminish within marriage or an intimate relationship, and said rape in such a relationship severely damages a woman’s sense of safety, creates betrayal and helplessness, and causes long-term psychological harm.
Prosecutor Attorney Tali Keart of the Central District said the crimes took place inside the home, which should be a woman’s safest place. She said he exploited the power imbalance, kept her in constant fear, and treated her as a tool for satisfying his “distorted desires,” while ignoring her wishes, dignity and right to control her body. The prosecution had sought 15 years in prison, and said the defendant refused to take responsibility and instead tried to blame the complainant and portray her negatively. The prison term was added on top of a prior conviction.
