Megiddo College Launches Innovative Kibbutz-Based Basketball Development Program

Megiddo College is introducing a unique basketball development model that integrates professional sports training with kibbutz community life and education. Located in Kibbutz Mishmar HaEmek, players live together, share meals in the communal dining hall, and participate in community activities such as swimming and social events, while also engaging in educational programs. The initiative is led by Gil Lin, head of the Megiddo Regional Council, who envisions combining the kibbutz lifestyle with high-level sports achievement in 2026.

The kibbutz itself supports the project by providing a home for the players. The professional coaching staff includes Yoav Shamir, assistant coach of the Israeli national basketball team, and Rimon Yabzuri, the national team’s physical conditioning coach, who oversee daily training and development. A team of professionals and managers also supports the players.

Megiddo College has a strong tradition of nurturing basketball talent, having produced notable players such as Dagan Yabzuri, Amos Lin, and Adam and Or Goren, who have reached high levels in Israeli basketball and serve as role models for younger athletes. The innovative approach has attracted attention from top-tier Israeli basketball clubs, and a partnership with a leading team is expected to be announced soon, highlighting the model as a promising path for developing young players in Israel.
