Israeli Soldier Trapped in Bus Luggage Compartment Rescued After Driver Unaware

An unusual incident took place last Friday in Tiberias when a female Israeli soldier became trapped inside the luggage compartment of an Egged bus that continued driving through the city streets. The soldier had entered the compartment to retrieve her bag during a stop near a local hotel, but the door closed on her, leaving her stuck inside. She screamed for help but was initially unheard. The bus proceeded slowly toward the central station, with the driver unaware of her presence.

The soldier described feeling helpless and fearful for her safety, especially as her leg was exposed outside the compartment. She managed to call the police and knocked on the compartment walls to alert passersby. Due to traffic congestion, pedestrians noticed her leg sticking out and the knocking sounds, prompting them to alert the driver. The bus stopped, the driver opened the compartment, and the soldier was rescued.

After being freed, she suffered injuries to her leg and head and was taken by ambulance to Poriya Hospital for treatment. She called the experience the most frightening she had ever endured and expressed ongoing anxiety about what could have happened if the bus had continued driving.

Egged issued a statement expressing regret over the incident, explaining that the driver did not see the soldier enter the compartment and believed she had already left the bus. The company emphasized the event was unintentional, and the driver stopped immediately upon realizing the situation, assisting the soldier and following up with her afterward. Egged wished her a speedy recovery.
