Grandson of Ziditshov Rebbe Visits Sanz Rebbe After Military Prison Release

Shmuel Shmuelka Pinter, grandson of the Ziditshov Rebbe, was warmly welcomed by the Sanz Rebbe at his residence in Caesarea shortly after being released from a 20-day military prison sentence for studying Torah. Accompanied by his grandfather, the Ziditshov Rebbe, and his father, Rabbi Chaim Pinter, the visit included a profound conversation addressing the challenges faced by Torah scholars and the ongoing hostility toward the ultra-Orthodox community.

The Sanz Rebbe recounted historical examples of revered rabbis who endured imprisonment for their faith, emphasizing that true desecration of God's name is forgetting Him, not suffering for Torah study. He criticized current agitators who incite against the religious community, describing them as part of a hostile "mixed multitude" and lamented the growing brazenness and disrespect they exhibit. Despite this, he noted that many secular Israelis still show faith and seek blessings, illustrating a complex relationship between religious and secular Jews.

The Ziditshov Rebbe shared personal experiences of anti-religious hostility, including being chased and struck in the street, contrasting past and present levels of animosity. Both leaders stressed the enduring strength of Torah and faith amid adversity, with the Sanz Rebbe quoting Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai on the survival of Torah and expressing hope that the community will remain steadfast despite challenges.

The discussion also touched on the need for rabbinical unity and legal advocacy to protect Torah scholars, recalling past efforts to organize rabbinical courts and legal representation for the ultra-Orthodox.
