Apple Faces Major Setbacks with Several High-Profile Product Launches
Apple, renowned for its successful products like the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, has also experienced notable failures despite high expectations and significant investments. One prominent example is the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset launched in 2024. Despite its advanced technology and potential to revolutionize computer use, its steep starting price of $3,499 deterred many buyers, preventing it from becoming widely adopted.
Another controversial product was the 2013 Mac Pro, nicknamed the "trash can" due to its unique round design. Although visually striking, professional users criticized it for being difficult to upgrade and customize. Additionally, Apple’s Butterfly Keyboard, introduced in some MacBook models to create a thinner design, faced widespread complaints about keys sticking or failing, leading Apple to revert to a different mechanism.
The Magic Mouse, priced around $79, also sparked debate. While praised for its sleek design, users found it uncomfortable, particularly because its charging port is located underneath, making it unusable during charging. Perhaps the biggest failure was AirPower, a wireless charging mat announced in 2017 for about $129. Due to technical issues and overheating, Apple canceled the product in 2019 before it ever reached the market.
These cases illustrate that even a tech giant like Apple can struggle to meet user expectations, showing that promising ideas do not always translate into successful products.
