Qatar goalkeeper says he will help fund hospital in Gaza after World Cup qualification
Qatar’s dramatic 1-1 draw with Switzerland in the 2026 World Cup aftertime left the European side frustrated and strengthened Qatar’s status in the group. The equalizer came in stoppage time, and Qatar’s goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada was described as the team’s standout performer.
After the qualification, social media posts and Abunada’s Wikipedia page noted that he had pledged to donate money toward building a hospital in Gaza. The report says that pledge is real.
Abunada wrote after the qualification, "Praise be to God first and always." He added, "I am experiencing indescribable joy. Following the example of our national team captain, Hasan Al-Haydos, who always inspires us with his positions on and off the field, I am doing my part to help build a hospital for our brothers in Gaza."
