Qatar Goalkeeper Says He Will Donate to Build Gaza Hospital After World Cup Qualification
Qatar’s dramatic 1-1 draw with Switzerland left the European side disappointed, but the standout for Qatar was goalkeeper Mahmoud Abonada, who was credited with an excellent performance between the posts. Qatar salvaged the draw in added time, with Bualem Huqi scoring the equalizer against Kovar, and the result could complicate Switzerland’s path later in the competition.
After Qatar secured qualification for the World Cup, Abonada posted on social media that he would donate money to help build a hospital in Gaza. The post was also reflected in his Wikipedia entry. In his message, he wrote, “Praise be to God first and always,” and said he was overcome with joy after the qualification.
Abonada added that he was inspired by the example of Qatar national team captain Hassan Al-Haydos, whom he described as a constant source of inspiration both on and off the field. He said he was contributing his share “for building a hospital for our brothers in Gaza.”
