Former Barcelona Goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen Joins Ajax on Loan
Marc-André ter Stegen, the 34-year-old German goalkeeper, has officially joined Dutch club Ajax on a one-season loan from Barcelona. After spending 11 seasons with Barcelona and winning 21 titles, including the 2015 Champions League during their historic treble season, ter Stegen is seeking to regain full fitness following a challenging period marked by injuries and medical issues that limited his playing time.
This move reunites ter Stegen with coach Mitchell, under whom he previously played during a loan spell at Girona. At Ajax, where Israeli goalkeeper Oscar Gloukh also plays, ter Stegen aims to start a new chapter and bring valuable experience to one of the Netherlands' top teams.
Since joining Barcelona in the summer of 2014, ter Stegen made 423 official appearances, ranking 11th in the club's all-time appearance list and second only to Lionel Messi among foreign players. The loan deal reflects both the club's and player's desire for him to return to regular competitive action.
