Israeli Army Prepares for Possible Pause in Lebanon Ground Push Amid Iran Talks
The Israel Defense Forces are preparing for the possibility that Israel's political leadership will order a halt to the ground advance in southern Lebanon, as part of a developing U.S.-Iran agreement, according to a report by Kan News. Israeli officials are also expecting, in any case, to reduce strikes deeper inside Lebanon so as not to endanger the emerging deal between Washington and Tehran.
Security sources in Israel stressed that the IDF will not withdraw from the security zone as part of the Iran-related agreement. Instead, they said the issue is expected to be raised with the Lebanese side in talks in the United States in about a week and a half.
On the ground, fighters from the IDF's 36th Division continued moving north in southern Lebanon in recent days. Lebanese media reported that Israeli forces reached the outskirts of Nabatieh, the largest city in the area, and were effectively positioned on the Ali Taher ridge, about two kilometers north of Beaufort.
