Israeli Forces Scale Back Offensives in Lebanon as New Deployment Is Considered
The IDF is preparing for a possible change in its force deployment in Lebanon after the signing of an agreement linked to the framework deal announced by U.S. President Donald Trump with Iran. According to the report, the agreement is said in some accounts to include Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon, while Israeli forces are still waiting for clear instructions from the political leadership.
Since this morning, the army has significantly reduced offensive activity beyond the “yellow line.” At the same time, Hezbollah says no operations have been carried out since the agreement was announced, and Shiite civilians have been returning to villages in areas beyond the line.
Inside the buffer zone, the IDF says troops are continuing to destroy Hezbollah infrastructure and remove immediate threats. The army previously expanded its activity as far as the Litani River and the Saluki area, but it is now examining how its ground posture may change.
Defense Minister Israel Katz has said the IDF will not withdraw from the area, and Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi has ordered forces to keep holding the buffer zone and preserve air superiority there, until or unless a different decision is made in Jerusalem. The article also says the agreement includes the release of $24 billion for Iran.
