Volunteer Roles Open Across Israel, from Jerusalem Soup Kitchen to Service-Dog Fostering
The Ruach Tova volunteer platform, part of the Arison Group, is highlighting a range of opportunities across Israel and says it helps match individuals and company employees with organizations that need help. It works with thousands of nonprofits and all local authorities in an effort to encourage volunteering nationwide.
In northern Israel, the Israeli Service Dog Training Center in Kiryat Tivon, a nonprofit operating since 2017, is seeking volunteers to foster and raise service dogs during their first year. The dogs are being trained for people with post-traumatic stress, including combat veterans and victims of terror. The foster commitment lasts about 10 months and includes weekly afternoon training sessions, daily short exercises, exposure to different environments and people, and full professional guidance.
In the Sharon region, the Savyon association is looking for Kfar Saba residents to visit homebound elderly people. The volunteers would provide companionship and encouragement, and also lead activities such as board games, reading books and newspapers, help with tablets or computers, crafts, and gardening. In Ramat Gan, Beit Maasim Tovim is seeking volunteers age 20 and older to cook meals for low-income residents. The shifts can be one-time or ongoing, once every one or two weeks, on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
In Jerusalem, Meir Panim needs volunteers for cooking, packing and serving food at its soup kitchen. The work includes preparing meals, such as peeling and cooking, and then serving visitors. In Beersheba, Beit Marvachim, a residence for people with mental illness at a moderate functioning level, is looking for volunteers age 18 and up to help maintain the building, with small repairs and support for the custodian. Hours are flexible, with preference for daytime and evening shifts between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Most roles can be done once or long term, and registration is available through the website.
