Volunteer openings across Israel include mentoring, English tutoring and animal care

Ruch Tova, part of the Arison Group, has compiled a nationwide volunteer portal that matches individuals and employees from companies with organizations that need help. It works with thousands of nonprofits and all local authorities to encourage volunteering in Israel.

Among the current openings, Hiburim 20-80, a technology nonprofit focused on reducing loneliness among older adults, is seeking volunteers across the country to support senior citizens in local communities. Volunteers register to a database and receive location-based requests, most often for grocery and medicine delivery, digital assistance, medical accompaniment and social visits. The work can be one-time or long term, at varying days and hours.

Yedidim, a national organization founded in 1991 to help children, teens and young adults in distress, is recruiting mentors for its "Yedidim for Soldiers' Children" program. The program offers one-on-one mentoring for children ages 7 to 18 whose parent suffers post-trauma from military service. Meetings take place at the child’s home or nearby public places, once a week in the afternoon, for the long term.

Other volunteer needs include English tutoring for blind and visually impaired service users at Yeadim LeTzafon, Migdal Or in Kiryat Haim, long-term dog-walking and care at the Herzliya and Netanya branches of Herzliya and Netanya Love Animals, personal or group mentoring for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities at Neveh Adir in Rehovot, and sorting, packing and organizing food for needy families at Tchelet in Jerusalem.
