BMW Reveals First Official Images of Electric M3 Concept

BMW has released the first official images of its upcoming electric M3, after months of camouflage sightings. The car is still officially called an M concept, but it is described as very close to production and is based on the new Neue Klasse platform already seen on the i3. BMW unveiled it ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the model is expected to be shown later this year.

The exterior features a more aggressive front bumper, twin square lights at the corners, yellow daytime running lights that will become standard on M models, 3D lighting, and a hood with a V-shaped air outlet. In profile, it wears new center-lock wheels in blue and red, a nod to BMW M, along with new M side mirrors. The concept also debuts a new Monza Red paint color.

Inside, BMW says it is using nubuck leather for the first time in the brand’s history, covering the steering wheel, doors, and center console. The dashboard is wrapped in fabric with ambient lighting emerging through it, and there is a new M steering wheel with dedicated red controls. The seats are bucket seats trimmed in Merino leather, finished in blue and red, and fitted with red four-point harnesses.

BMW has not yet given full powertrain details, but says the car will use four electric motors and a control system with a powerful computer that can precisely distribute torque to each wheel for stronger dynamics. The battery will have a capacity of more than 100 kWh to support the expected high energy consumption.
