Israeli Parliament Eases Legal Internship Requirements for Reservists

The Israeli Constitution Committee approved a temporary provision allowing law students who served in the military reserves to begin their legal internships even if they have not completed all required exams and courses. Under the updated framework, students scheduled to start their internships between September 1 and December 31, 2026, may register and commence their internships despite having up to four courses and four exams remaining, provided the delay was due to active military service. This measure aims to prevent unnecessary delays in the professional integration of reservists who dedicated significant time to national security. Committee Chair MK Simcha Rothman emphasized that those who paused their studies to defend Israel should not face professional setbacks, calling the decision a correction of an injustice and a demonstration of commitment to reservists' futures. Rothman pledged to continue efforts to ensure that those who serve the country are not harmed in their civilian careers.
